For those of you unfamiliar with Toronto’s Ganjafest it will only be a matter of time before the wave reaches you and tides of people begin to flood future events. Ganjafest 2018 was the first of its kind in Toronto, organized by the TopClass Entertainment group, which brought out the talented styles of various reggae artists including: Eyesus, Rootz K, Kush I Krown, and Lutan Fyah to name a few.
The show’s headlining act was none other than the legendary Richie Spice who graced the attendees with his infamous island 33vibes and top hits such as “Youths Dem Cold”, “Brown Skin”, and “Pon De Corner”.
Introducing the acts and providing fluidity between sets were the charismatic duo of MC’s named “Natty B” and “Puggy”. As the night carried on the crowd continued to carry on the message and overall spirit of Ganjafest, one of love for self, community and all natural manifestations granted to us as a people.
The whole event brought more than just vibes for the spirit but also food for body as well. There were many vendors within the lot that offered a variety of foods from familiar Caribbean recipes to creative food adaptations such as Pimento Jerk’s
“Jerk Poutine”. For the mind there were many attractions and artistic displays inspired by Afro-centric and Caribbean styles and influences. Vendors sought the chance to bring their trades to the forefront and many other organizations like the Organja Society were present as well providing insight on the knowledge available for black businesses within the space of legal Marijuana cultivation and sales.
